Since this is my first time engaging in the March blogging challenge, I wanted to introduce myself and explain a bit about me and my blog. First, Sitting Behind the Eight Ball is all about my life. I have always lived in Iowa and as a teenager, my dad once said, “It’s like you’re sitting behind the eight ball.” Well, there’s a lot of truth to that statement. When I was two and a half years old, I had spinal meningitis. I did survive though so that seems kind of lucky. Anyway, I was a very sick child, picking up every strain of measles, flu, coughs, you name it, I got it. I did eventually get over catching so many ailments probably because I had about every type of immunity possible.

Then my mom became an invalid overnight when I was seven. That event changed me forever. I believe a lot of the troubles I’ve run into in life were often self-inflicted stupidity, but I even remember someone once saying to me, “It’s like you’ve got a black cloud following you around.” Hmmm…..this felt very true at the time because I’d been dealing with one stressful situation after the other.

Okay, so enough about my blog title. I hope in the month ahead to be up to this challenge. I realize the amazing insight and writing chops the bloggers have that visit Two Teachers Writing. Hopefully, I can increase my pace as a writer from this challenge. I’m sure if you come back to visit my blog, you’ll find out some funny experiences and tragic ones, too, that I’ve experienced. I’ve always been a little bit too honest.

Good luck to all! I’m looking forward to immersing myself into reading your blogs and writing alongside you.

Oh, Barb, how exciting to write alongside you this month. I love that admission, “I’ve always been a little bit too honest.” It made me smile. (I learned about “sitting behind the eight ball” from this post. I never really knew what that idiom meant.)

Barb, I’m so excited you’re joining this challenge. I didn’t know this fact about your mom. I think these childhood challenges have made us scrappy and candid/honest. I know you’ll make me laugh this month and probably weep, too. I’m ready for the emotional journey w/ you, my friend.

Welcome, Barb!! I am excited to have you here – and I just assumed that you had been blogging for years. You are a natural at this! Powerful message /meaning behind your blog title, my goodness – what a strong person you are, to overcome spinal meningitis. I, too, had a mom with major health issues (though not an invalid)…I know that writing has always been healing for me, helping me to wrestle through life’s challenges. Again, happy day one!! So happy you are here!

Maureen, here’s what I’m trying to tell you on your blog, but I keep getting booted: Maureen, I love how you are able to connect this challenge with a everyday stress in your life. I know I have that same voice in my head that makes me get up to take care of something. I’d love to hear more about your writing projects. Looking forward to learning more about you this month!
