Slice of Life Post: March 13, 2023

I wouldn’t be blogging today without the encouragement from Glenda. I’m actually not sure how much I really enjoy blogging, but I have wanted to do this for awhile, and I believe it will improve my critical thinking and writing skills. I’m still not a fan of WordPress as I haven’t had the time to study the tutorials. I’m embarrassed because my blog site looks like dog doo. I need the headers and footers and the nice formatting I’ve noticed other bloggers have. (By the way, for anyone reading this, please explain EduBlogs because when I try to post a reply to someone using it, I generally fail. I get a message that says my url is incorrect. Hmmm….I used to think I was somewhat tech savvy, but my confidence has definitely decreased.)

I do appreciate the TWT website. Wow, what a wealth of wonderful resources! I’ve enjoyed reading other blogs, too. I haven’t figured out how to simply like a post; maybe that is not possible. Anyway, I love to respond, but I want to be thoughtful in responding which slows me down. Is it age or Covid fog? Finding the right words seems to be more and more difficult for me these days. Alas, I digress from my overall point which is to share my sincere appreciation to those bloggers who have responded to my posts. I especially need to thank Glenda, Kim, Denise, and Maureen for consistently reading and responding to my feeble blogging attempts. Your support and encouragement has inspired me to continue writing. Hey, we’re almost halfway through the month, and I’m still here.

Thanks, too, for the beautiful postcards I have recently received. Just today, I came home to find an exquisite photograph of The White Temple in Northern Thailand. Last week I received The Legend of the Waving Girl, a statue from Savannah, Georgie. I truly appreciate these wonderful cards, and am sincerely touched and amazed that someone would take the time to reach out to me. Muchas gracias! These cards have not only inspired today’s blog, but I think I will share some of my own travel experiences and the places I’d love to visit in future posts.

    So glad you’re here. It’s easy to get discouraged, but this is not the first post from you that I’ve read, and I truly enjoy what you offer. Hang in there! You’ll feel fabulous at the end of this. Thanks for sharing.

    Congratulations on making it this far! Woo hoo! I wrote once about the time it would take to comment on every post even for just a few minutes, and it came up to hours and hours! It is so hard to get “around the block” but I’m so glad I stopped by today! You can do this!

    Barb, you seem like a seasoned blogger and your posts do NOT look like doggy poo. I have loved reading your slices. I have been part of SOLSC for years, but I still am wrecked with self-doubt (There are times when I have received no comments at all on a slice – I breathe in deeply, and remind myself that there are so many people slicing and all of us are short on one commodity: time.) Anyhow, this was a great topic for slicing – perfect for middle of the month, almost a ‘check in.’ Wonderful to have you here!!

    Barb, what I love most about the writing groups is the support that we all give each other. You are so right about Glenda – she is such an inspiration – her sharing, her leadership and direction, and her encouragement. She writes NCTE proposals and travels so that we, too, can travel vicariously. YOU, TOO do the same – -you have written amazing prompts and encouraged many of us in at least two writing groups that I know of – – and you have also shared in your blog some of the challenges and dark hours that you have experienced in your life. Courageous writing in and of itself, and sharing it, is like reaching out a hand to someone who has walked in those same shoes along the way and letting us know we are not alone. We are so blessed to have the rich relationships born of writing together. I’m so glad you are here, and so glad you are encouraging other writers as well. Keep up the great work blogging – it’s a learning process, and I wish I had caught on as quickly as you have, my friend!

    Okay, I’m a little weepy reading these accolades, which I need after a day w/ middle schoolers! You’re doing a fantastic job blogging. Edublogs is poop! I suspect you’re getting the anti-spam word wrong, as I often do, so go back and try to spell the nonsensical word again. My pet peeve this year is having to “join” some wixsites (?) to comment. For the love of all things holy, who recommended that site to folks? Anyway, I echo Kim’s comments about your blogging g skills. And when Maureen doesn’t get comments it’s because I missed a week. I’m gonna expect you to pick up the slack for me. ❤️❤️🥰

        I’ve been thinking about it! But it’s a difficult break up after 14 years. I love how easy it is to keep track of the WordPress comments.
