Slice of Life March 16, 2023

Once a year we will go to a wonderful restaurant in Burlington, Iowa called Martinis. It is on the 4th floor of the old hospital and the scenic views and food are spectacular. We eat way too much because the best deal is the “grazing” in which you are served appetizers, salad, sides, filet mignon and a pork chop. Plus, they have wonderful martinis. I had a Lemon Drop and afterwards a Truffletini, a wonderful blend of chocolate vodka, Baileys, and Kahlua. Oh, my goodness, it was decadent!

For dessert they offer you a BIG ASS ICE CREAM CAKE. We are actually not too fond of this dessert so we asked if we could make a substitution, and we could! It was some kind of chocolate lava cake.

Our desserts! Celebrating Ashley and Nick’s 3rd anniversary and Mark’s birthday.

At the end of the evening, we took home lots of leftovers!

Our view from the booth, the Burlington stay-cable bridge. Vehicles are entering Illinois.

Cannot wait for next year to celebrate here!

    Barb,
I’d actually make a trip to Iowa to eat in that restaurant. Iow has the best steakhouses. I remember from living there. Wish I could remember the names. Anyway, I’ll take the ice cream cake and the martinis and the view. Happy Birthday, Mark! How old are you now? How old are you now? Ha! Remember that song, Barb?

Yes, I do remember that song. Let’s just say he is 8 years older than the two of us.

This is a perfect slice! Just one little moment of a big day of celebration, and a delicious drink to clink the moment of happiness. That’s a fabulous picture – I love how the sizzle sparklers on the cake make the occasion so festive!

A yum of a slice! I would enjoy that kind of grazing – such a fun way to celebrate. What a wonderful tradition, and it sounds like a great restaurant. I loved the photo of y’all at the meal; and I love bridges – that was a cool photo, too. Happy day!

Barb, congratulations to the young marrieds! And happy birthday to Mark. The photos are awesome. I love restaurants with such character, and Martinis sure seems to have that. I’m glad you enjoyed your time. The photos add so much to your post.
