Slice of Life Post March 30, 2023, by Barb Edler

This week I was blessed with a tour of Glenda Funk’s artwork which inspired Maureen Young Ingram to do the same. Both tours were wonderful. Yesterday, Rita DiCarne shared her observation of squirrel’s gymnastic moves and the need to slow down to observe nature which inspired my post today: a nature tour, a gallery of photographs I’ve taken mostly from my backyard.

Moonlight and sunlight on the river are magical. I think the trees form a heart shape in this photograph, a perfect frame for this gorgeous full moon.

River barges go up and down the river throughout the year when the river isn’t frozen. At night tow lights will flash across our sliding glass door. I often wonder if the captain of the tow or the deckhands can see us sitting inside.

A replica of the Nina. I took this photo while on my way to work one “first day of school with kids” I just love the way it turned out. This was taken near Rand Park, a must visit if you ever come to Keokuk. The river looks much more like a lake above the dam and is called Lake Cooper in honor of the man who designed the dam.

Of course, it’s not always sunny here. I took this photo from my patio. You can see one of our solar lights on the right.

I love to take photos of our lilies. This one is a special hybrid that Dr. Messer, an orthodontist, grew. I bought several from him once. Sadly, he’s moved away from the area like so many other people.

I’m in love with taking sky photos. This one was taken at sunrise in Florida, but doesn’t this look like a great big bunny?

I like to call this photograph moon dancers. The sky was so strange on the day I took several of these photos. I do not have a special camera so it’s not as clear as I’d like it to be.

I’d love to post a few more photographs, but I think I’ll save them for another day. Happy Thursday to all!

I am in awe of every one of these, Barb! You are in a magical nature setting, right on the water – those are heavenly photos, with so much sky and water in view. Yes, I saw the bunny in the Florida photo! Just precious! When I look through my camera roll, I am surprised by how often I am photographing the sky – it is such a place of beauty and wonder. The snow picture makes me so happy to see…we didn’t get a speck of snow here in Maryland this year. Thank you for sharing these photos – nature is so healing. I feel energized by looking at these!

    Barb,
These photos are amazing. Every time I see photos of the Mississippi River you post, I want to sit on your deck w/ a glass of wine in hand and watch the barges float by and the sun go down. I don’t want that snow, however. I know Iowa snow is heavy and wet! I don’t miss that. And that lily is spectacular. Gorgeous sky photos, too. Nature paints a new canvas every day.

Barb, yes, I would love to sit on the deck with you and Glenda and Maureen looking out at the Mississippi, please. What a great slice of your life today. So many beauties here. The bunny, like the one on the moon, is lovely. I loved reading all your captions, like the heart-shaped frame for the full moon, and the orthodontist who is no longer in the area. This was a delightful slice and makes me feel peaceful and out in nature with you.

These are wonderful pictures. I am a little partial to the beach picture, though! Please consider writing a picture post for Solace & Connection on my blog this weekend!! These would be perfect! πŸ™‚
