Today is the first morning in nearly a week that we haven’t had fog. Yesterday the sun finally appeared, and I was so thankful. It’s hard to shake the winter doldrums which inspired me to write a hopeful haiku.

Barb, I’m so ready for spring. I’d just love a blanketing of snow first – like maybe three full days starting on a Monday for obvious reasons, and then a return to the busy-ness of life and the full splendour of spring’s warmth. This haiku is tiny but so, so powerful. You know I love the short forms most of all. There is something about leaving space for the rich images and meanings that happen in the short forms. I saw a robin last weekend. Someone in North Georgia had a hummingbird at the feeder, too. Maybe the groundhog will call it spring.
We have had enough snow, fog and ice. Heard we were supposed to get dumped on two more times though.

The fog was unreal in West Virginia on Thursday. But Friday was glorious! It was in the mid-sixties & a majority of my windows were open in the house. Outside the birds were singing a chorus that made me excited for spring. These small glimmers of the upcoming season are nice, but sometimes, torturous.
