Yesterday my morning began with prepping the lower meeting room at the Keokuk Art Center so volunteers could help paint canvas squares. Students are painting individual “tattooed hearts” on each square. Then their squares will be arranged to create a beautiful mural for an up-and-coming Pocket Park in downtown Keokuk. I wrote a grant last summer to help pay for the expenses, but I will most likely need to seek more funding to support this project. The big expense is at the end when the mural will be hung. In the meantime, I’m anxious to see the student work. Our theme for this project is “Be the Beauty in Your Community.” The beauty here is the generous time and efforts donated by volunteers such as the lovely ladies in my photograph.

After I left work, I purchased an ice cream cake from the DQ in Hamilton, Illinois. We took it to my son’s home to celebrate his 4-year anniversary and my husband’s birthday. I had Happy “4” & “74” written on the cake, and of course, I forgot to take a picture of it. Nuts! It was cute and delicious.

Our grandson was full of smiles, bubbly and sweet. He’s been struggling with illnesses this last month. He had RSV, a viral infection, and an ear infection. Poor kid. He’ll be nine months in six days.

On the way home, an amazing sun was setting. After parking, I immediately took a photo of both the sun and moon. Notice the difference between the color of each sky. I did nothing to saturate color, etc.

My cell phone camera can only do so much, but these two photos were taking thirty seconds from each other.

Today I’m still busy, it’s cool and gloomy here today, but my sister who lives two hours away had quite a bit of snow this morning.

Since it is supposed to be spring, I decided to revise a haiku have been playing with. I am fond of this draft.

This slice is about so much! Art and nature and haiku all in one! For me, it’s the haiku that speaks to me… about snow erasing spring. So true!

Your haiku filled me with a sense of ‘hush’ – much like the snow picture you included. Amazing to see that sunset, and the moon in the sky like that – such clear images. This is a meditative slice – truly, so much beauty in the world. You are – paraphrasing your words, here – “Being the Beauty in Community” through this slice, I think!! (Bravo to you for getting that wonderful grant for your community.)

Barb, I love the creativity of your post today. The way that the table is covered and the artists are working on the canvases really brings a smile to my face. Please please please make sure you share the finished product so that we can all see these hearts. I also love your haiku. Your work at the art center must be so gratifying, seeing the colors and designs of artists every day.

    Barb,

The arts council is going to miss you come January. You’re doing an amazing job. Where do you get these ideas? Next time don’t be so eager to eat the cake! I would have loved seeing it. And I’m looking forward to seeing that art installation.

It wasn’t about eating the cake. Lol….I was too distracted by Arthur.

Barb, what a wealth of topics and fun in this post today. I’m loving the snowy photo, the art workers getting ready for the big event, your grandson, the cake, and those two skies! Amazing. And your haiku is icing on the cake.
