As our clocks spring forward, I find myself reviewing all that is changing in my life. Sunday mornings often involve quiet reflection and thinking ahead about the week.

Last Friday night, I hosted my last art reception. “The Eyes of March” included a variety of artists who showcased their work. From fused glass to pastels, the room was full of art and people. Now, I’m still trying to figure out how to secure some final loose ends. I cannot completely walk away from the job as it is a nonprofit and there’s lots to show my replacement Michelle.

More importantly, I must readjust to not being at the art center all of the time. Of course, I will need to be involved for quite a while, and I will continue to be a patron and active volunteer for the Keokuk Art Center. Yet, this pivot has me worrying about how well I will spend my time. Will I be productive? Will I be able to purge a lifetime of things that need to be sorted, recycled, tossed, sold, etc. so my sons do not have to do a bunch of cleaning once I’m gone. Will I spend more time writing? Will I exercise more? Will I be happy? Can I adjust to having more free time? Well, only time will tell.

A few of the artists from my last reception in front of Carla’s March Hare.
Michelle was one of the featured artists and she’s to the left of Renee who could not be there when the other artists were. Three artists did not come to the reception.

I’m raising a toast to that art reception, to your next chapter, and to the wine of your poem – – I know you will find the next door just waiting to be opened. I pray it reveals itself and flashes neon light so you know it’s the right one!

    Barb,

I know how scary it is to step into this new unknown. I also know how active you are and am confident you’ll find lots of new adventures to fill your days. You are leaving the art center in good shape and have worked so hard. I also know you’ll be there for your successor in ways you did not have. Love the art and look forward to what awaits you.

Barb, congratulations on your second retirement. I trust all the good things will come to you. I am hoping to be inspired by your cleaning out mode. I need to do that too.

The symbolism in your haiku is so powerful. The message is clear and so sad to me.
