Slice of Life Post for April 1, 2025, by Barb Edler
I’m a fool to even show up at the Southside Boat Club to play cards on a Tuesday night because the cards have abandoned me. I wouldn’t know what lucky meant if it was looking at me straight in the eyes. Losing is the norm. I did my best tonight but got euchred on a hand I tried to go alone on. When you get a score of one out of ten on the fourth game, you know you are not going to be in the money.

Okay, so I’m a loser. Put the big L shape fingers on my forehead and move on. Today, I wrote a cento poem for Ethical ELA’s first prompt VerseLove. It’s called “Dark Desires” and it captures the darkness I feel rising inside of me. I want to be positive, feel positive, radiate positive energy, etc. When I lose at cards and then come home to read an email sharing that the government basically wants to defund the humanities, I do not feel positive.
On another note, I think it’s important to celebrate artists. I celebrate Kim Johnson who create the lovely design for VerseLove. Hope your Wednesday is heavenly.

Peace out!
