I love taking generative writing workshops and one just ended today. Our instructor provides the prompt, we write, then share. It’s a wonderfully small group of women who are of a similar age. The work is inspiring.

My poet friends’ blogs and poetry are also inspiring. Something wonderful happens when reading a moving poem, a humorous blog, a sorrowful moment shared by another writer. I’m blessed by more than one community of writers, and I’m holding that close to my heart right now.

Glenda Funk’s post today is hysterical. She has some great tips about how to look young. You can find her post here.

Denise Krebs shared a photo of one of my favorite artists today and wrote about eating at her favorite restaurant. One I wish I was at right now to indulge my Mexican food craving. Her blog closes with a phenomenal poem. Check it out here.

Kim Johnson is sharing cento poems this month. In her blog today, she shared a photograph of a stack of poetry books. I knew right then I had to write a poem even though I feel close to being completely drained after writing about my father near the end of his lifetime. Kim’s centos are provocative and today’s along with her photograph can be found here.

How About Now

Make believe
I'm the voice in the air
you hear
you carry

Make believe
a raft of grief
is buoying both of us
across an orange sky

Past
trouble
rebellion
rain
past all the pain
we crave

Together let's
release the bright dead things
we shelter

let's be hairy
spiders
spinning webs of joy

Wow, Barb, you have found your voice in that poem! It is so striking. “the passion we crave”, “a raft of grief”, “spinning webs of joy” Oh, so much to love here. Thank you for the shoutout. (Maybe you can check the link to Glenda’s yes, hilarious! post.)

    Barb,

This is such a lovely honor. Thank you. You are an amazing writer who inspires me all the time. I often ask myself how you would respond to something I’ve written because you are such a good reader and provider of feedback. I love your poem and all those inspirational works in it. Seems to me now is the perfect time to create, all things considered.
