This month another slam poetry event is planned. I signed up. I am ready to back out. Writing poetry every day reveals to me how much I struggle to find the right word, message, image, sensory appeal, rhythm, etc. etc. I’ve found myself in a kind of slump trying to balance work with time to write. Many of my poems so far have been found, and I do enjoy the craft of writing, but I have not had many poems I feel like sharing. They’re like ugly flaws I want to hide.
This morning when I decided to rise, the river was absolutely gorgeous. Lemon lights burnished the placid blue plate. Right now, the trees are bare so it’s easy to view it from my living room. Nature is truly inspiring. I couldn’t capture the beauty of this morning’s moment, but I remembered seeing the tree lines perfectly reflected on the river’s face not long ago so that is what inspired today’s haiku.

All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir is an excellent read. It focuses on two teens from Pakistan and how they try to navigate life when the adults in their lives do not protect them. Truly powerful book. I highly recommend it!
